Somewear: Matinee in NY

Somewear: Matinee in NY
I just spent some time in my old stomping grounds, NYC (hence my disappearance from STB last week).  While I was there I went to a few Broadway shows including one matinee performance.  Now, I realize dressing up for a matinee doesn’t have to be all stilettos and sequins, but I was appalled to see so many people sporting ripped up jeans and oversized tees.  Maybe I’m old school, but I was raised to always dress up for the theatre.  Even if it’s a daytime show, it can’t just be me and all the blue hairs keeping it classy- people!

Somewear: Art Basel Miami

From December 1 through 4, Miami Beach, Florida, will host the 10th edition of Art Basel Miami Beach, the most prestigious art show in the Americas. More than 260 leading galleries from North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa will take part, showcasing works by more than 2,000 artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.  My girlfriend will be attending and needs to know what to wear for a day of viewing.  I think today’s look is comfy, yet chic.  It’s perfect for a day on your feet!

Somewear: Couples Baby Shower for a New Adoption!

Somewear: Couples Baby Shower for a New Adoption!
My girlfriend called last night about what to wear to her baby shower that her college friends are throwing for her.  Since she is adopting, she doesn’t have to worry about finding cute maternity clothes.  With it being a couples shower held at her friend’s home, I told her she doesn’t need to go too dressy.  Wearing a cute top, skinny pants, and boots would be perfect.  She is not a super girly dresser, so I went with a nice mix of feminine and masculine.  I love the frilly lace top mixed with the riding boots and cross-body bag.

Pumpkin Patch

Ok, maybe this is a little bit too literal today.  You might be mistaken for a pumpkin wearing this in a pumpkin patch, but I just can’t help it.  This look is fab for fall!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

It is the first day of fashion week!  I can’t wait to see what is in store for us for Spring 2012!  To me, fall’s fashion week is the first time to really sport the trends of the season. Crisp blouses, clean cut color-blocking, dots, tassles, and snakeskins- you need to just work it all in!  And, if you can’t make the shows- check the live feeds out here! Today’s streams: Nicholas K, BCBG, Richard Chai, and Tadashi Shoji

Where to Wear: Flood Pants

Listen, just because the East Coast has to take cover this weekend, doesn’t mean they can’t do it in style.  Hurricane Irene is no excuse to stay in your pj’s all day, in fact- I think this is the perfect occasion for sporting your flood pants!

  1. D.C.- Stay inside and plan your entire wardrobe for fall- maybe have a fashion show: Oasis, Floodlength Pant, $82.33
  2. Long Island- I suggest sitting down and rewriting the lyrics to “Come on Eileen”- I’ll give you a start… “Come on Irene”: Mango, Pintuck Flood Length Pants, $31.10
  3. The Cape- Do some serious online shopping, because once Irene is over, these pants will be over- goodbye summer- hello fall: DSquared2, Cropped Trousers, $285
  4. Hamptons- Call your friends at the Cape regarding good online shopping finds (remember- no more white jeans- you have enough).  Call your mother in Long Island and help her with her song: 7 For All Mankind, Roxanne Flood Jeans, $159
  5. NYC- The party never stops here- get out your disco ball and have an all day dance party: Zara, Gold Flood Pants, $79.90

Wine Pairing at Your Local Artisan Cheese Shop

I’m excited, because this evening I’m going to a wine and cheese pairing in my neighborhood.  I love the sophistication of this Friday night activity and my outfit mirrors that.  It's cool and chic, but not over the top.
