Somewear: Back in the Classroom

My whole fam is starting back to school today: mom, dad, sis, bro-in-law, and aunt.  Basically, I’m the odd ball out here!  And though I haven’t been in the classroom since college, I can provide my family (at least the ladies) with an A+ outfit that will get them through the first day of school!  Shift dresses and low wedges are not only adorable classroom appropriate pieces, but they are comfortable at the same time which I know is key!  Happy first day back!

Somewear: Chicago (The Musical) at The Winspear Theatre

Going to see an oldie, but a goodie tonight.  Chicago’s in Dallas!  Of course, you know that I’ll be dressing up for the show- jeans just aren’t meant for the theatre.

If you’re in the Dallas area:
the show is running from now until the 26th of August, so hurry before it’s gone! Tickets here!

If you aren’t in the Dallas area: go see a show, anyway!  The theatre is good for your soul.  Also, it gives you an excuse to look fabulous.  Though I’m sure if you follow STB, you already do ;)

Somewear: Chihuly Night at the Dallas Arboretum

I’m so excited, because tonight I’ll be walking through the Dallas Arboretum viewing various dramatic glass sculpture installations created by artist Dale Chihuly. Chihuly creates free-standing sculptures, large-scale artwork installations and drawings, which have been exhibited at museums, gardens, architectural environments and galleries throughout the world.

For those of you in the Dallas area: his work will be up until November 5th.  Plus, Wednesday and Thursday nights are buy one get one free for the entire month of August!  For more info, you can visit the Dallas Arboretum.

For those of you not in the Dallas area: this DVF romper is on sale!  What!?!?  It’s so cute!

Somewear: Blogger Meet & Greet

Yesterday local Dallas boutique, Tootsies, hosted a blogger Meet & Greet in preparation for an upcoming event they will be hosting at the end of the month.  (More details on that later, but if you’re in the area Save The Date for June 28th).  It was actually a wonderful way to spend a Sunday, because the store was closed and we had free rein to run around both floors and try on all of their fabulous clothes, shoes, jewelry, bags, and more.  Our quest was to come up with a killer outfit to wear on the runway during their June 28th event.  There is going to be a contest for the best dressed blogger, so very soon I’ll be asking all my followers to help me get out the vote!  Now, this outfit, isn’t the one I picked out yesterday (thought I did try the pants on there and they are so fun).  This is the outfit I feel I should have worn yesterday, instead of my typical lazy Sunday garb (so not STB of me)!  Anyway- next up is a photo shoot this Wednesday to show off my adorable outfit.  You guys are going to love it!  Oh- and side note- if you’re in the Dallas, Houston, or Atlanta area you need to hit up Tootsies ASAP, because they’re having an amazing sale!

Somewear: Hotel Villa San Michele Terrace in Fiesole

My girlfriend, Libby, who lived in Florence for a semester in college, told me that her absolute favorite place to visit was a little town called Fiesole which sat in the scenic hills just above Florence.  She said the view there was unreal and that I must go for a glass of wine (or two).  Well, I did one better with a dinner reservation at the beautiful Hotel Villa San Michele.  I want to get there early to sip outside on the terrace and watch the sunset over the magical city of Firenze!

Somewear: Lake Como, Italy

I made it to Italy!  First stop: Lake Como! Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful lakes in Italy, perhaps even the world, Lake Como, will be just the remedy I need after a tiresome overnight flight from JFK to Milan.  I plan on doing a lot of strolling down the waterfront, sipping wines by the pier, and soaking up the sun!

Somewear: Charity Luncheon

This afternoon I’ll be attending Dallas’s 24th Annual Luncheon and Fashion Show benefiting the Children’s Cancer Fund.  There is a live and silent auction, champagne reception and lunch, and a fun-filled fashion show where the children get to walk with local celebs, sports stars, and distinguished sponsors.  This will be my first year attending and I’m thrilled to be a part of it all.  For more info on how to get involved with CCF and their events in the future, check out their website here or “LIKE” them on Facebook here

Shakespeare’s Birthday Party

My former SMU gal pals have started a theatre company in LA called Little Candle Productions.  They are hosting a fundraiser tonight for their upcoming show, The Winter’s Tale.  What better way to raise money than by celebrating the birth of the playwright himself, Mr. Willie Shakes!  In case you were wondering, he would have been 448 today.  Now, if I know some of these gals like I do, there is a chance that they might just come in full Elizabethan garb (Allison).  However, if I were able to attend, I think I might go with just a slight nod to the era by sporting a dramatic ruffled collar and some show stopping jewels.  If you’re in LA, I’d highly suggest joining in the festivities tonight which will include Shakespeare themed libations and a trivia contest!  More info here!

Somewear: Outdoor Concert

I’m going to an outdoor concert tonight to see the Spazmatics.  The weather is great in Dallas right now, but the nights can get a bit chilly, so I’ll need to come prepared with a jacket just incase.  I love a good maxi for a casual evening outside!

Fashion Cents: Black Tie on a Budget

I’m going to a black tie event tonight.  Most people think black tie means fancy clothes and expensive jewelry, but that is not necessarily the case.  There are ways to get around it, you just need to be clever.

When wearing cheaper material- I always say go with foolproof black.  Sometimes cheaper fabric can look even cheaper when color is involved.  Black always hides- remember that.

Costume jewelry is in style, so wear that instead of sporting fake looking fine jewelry.  Also note- there is no such thing as “expensive” sequins (though you can be charged out the wazoo for it.)  Just blind people with glitz and glamour and they won’t know the difference.  I promise!

What to Wear When: It’s Your Turn to do the Talking

Big Presentation? Lunch with the Boss? Dinner with a soon-to-be ex? Say what’s on your mind and own the room.  It’s time for them to hear you roar!
