Somewear: Matinee in NY

Somewear: Matinee in NY
I just spent some time in my old stomping grounds, NYC (hence my disappearance from STB last week).  While I was there I went to a few Broadway shows including one matinee performance.  Now, I realize dressing up for a matinee doesn’t have to be all stilettos and sequins, but I was appalled to see so many people sporting ripped up jeans and oversized tees.  Maybe I’m old school, but I was raised to always dress up for the theatre.  Even if it’s a daytime show, it can’t just be me and all the blue hairs keeping it classy- people!

What to Wear When: It’s Your Last Day of Your Twenties

Well, this is it kids.  The dreaded doomsday has arrived.  I’ve reached my peak.  It’s over.  Goodbye beer bingers and hello Botox benders.  Things are about to get real up in here.  I’m turning 30!  But today I’m still 29 and I’m going to do it up 90’s style- a small tribute to my childhood/teen years.  You only live once: that’s the motto jigga YOLO!

Somewear: 4th of July at the Club!

When I spotted this skirt I couldn’t help, but think it was the perfect festive holiday number, but then I thought it might be a little much for hanging on the dock at the lake or grilling burgers at a backyard BBQ.  However, it’s absolutely ideal for a leisurely lunch at the club!  The biggest dilemma now is who’s taking me!

Somewear: Pre-Shoot Prep

I went to my photo shoot yesterday at Tootsies!  Incase you need a refresher from my Monday post, Tootsies, a local boutique in Dallas, is hosting a blogger event on June 28th! 10 bloggers have been invited to “walk the runway” that evening.  Each blogger was asked to choose an outfit from Tootsies that best represented their current style.  The photo shoots happened this past Tuesday and Wednesday, and next week the pics will be posted on Tootsies’ website!  I’ll be asking my followers to vote for me online for the best outfit!  And as a little incentive, I’ll be giving away a $50 Tootsies gift card to one lucky follower who helps me spread the word online! (More details on that later).

Now, as for what I wore to the shoot, a few things were key.  I needed to come with clean hair, simple foundation, a fresh mani/pedi, and nude underwear.  These preparations prior to arrival were necessary to make the jobs of the make-up artist, hair dresser, and photographer a bit easier.  I also think wearing a button-down is key incase you get stuck in hair rollers and need to get dressed for the shoot.  Jewelry isn’t really needed, but you know me, I couldn’t resist a little flair!

Somewear: Hotel Villa San Michele Terrace in Fiesole

My girlfriend, Libby, who lived in Florence for a semester in college, told me that her absolute favorite place to visit was a little town called Fiesole which sat in the scenic hills just above Florence.  She said the view there was unreal and that I must go for a glass of wine (or two).  Well, I did one better with a dinner reservation at the beautiful Hotel Villa San Michele.  I want to get there early to sip outside on the terrace and watch the sunset over the magical city of Firenze!

FUN.

Somewear: FUN.
Going to see the NY band, FUN., tonight at the House of Blues.  I’m super excited, not only because “I knew them in NY back when," but because I LOVE their music!  They’ll be on tour for the next few months- check and see if they’re coming to a city near you. Clickety Click.

Somewear: Red Ball

My girlfriend, Mia, will be attending a charity event tonight in NY, benefiting the Mary Lea Johnson Richards Research Institute.  It’s a “Red Ball” so as you can imagine, red will be the color of the night.  Instead of wearing a red dress, Mia thought it would be fun to wear black with red accessories.  I suggested, she go for this stunning Amrita Singh showstopper.  I know it will look amazing on her and I can’t wait to see pics!

Somewear: Hump Day

Sometimes a cute outfit doesn’t need a special occasion.  Be adorable “just because.”  Happy Hump Day!

What to Wear When: It’s Halloween at the Office

I know some work places get really into the holiday with costume contests and parties, and it all seems like a good idea at the time, but how do you really get any work done?  To avoid a costume that requires a huge wig, mask, or crazy make-up, but still keeps you within the holiday spirit, I think this “from your closet” cat costume is the purrrrfect fit.  Happy Halloween!

Orchestra Seats to RENT Off-Broadway

I’m so pumped to see one of my oldest and dearest friends perform tonight in the cast of RENT!  I’m a strong believer in dressing up for the theatre, even if it is to see a grungy rock musical set in the early 90’s.  I’m doing a slight nod to the era, but with more studs and stilettos and less real grunge.

What to Wear When: It Feels Like Summer, but You’re Ready for Fall

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for fall.  I want to start layering and wearing deep purples, blues, and mauves.  However, it’s 110 degrees still, so that is just not in the cards for me right now.  I need to get creative.  This dress is great, because it is cotton, so it will keep me cool, but the colors perfectly border the summer and fall line.  Peep-toe booties are also a great combo for in between seasons, and light grey nail polish is THE neutral color that can work with anything you’re wearing no matter what month you’re wearing it in.

Bachelorette Party at Teddy’s in Dallas

There are really only a few times in your life when you are allowed to wear sequins, cubic zirconia, and a tiara together in the same look: when you’re 2 years old playing dress-up, any New Year’s Eve bash with a mirrored ball, and, of course where it is most appropriate, your Bachelorette party.  My soon-to-be sister-in-law is having her shindig down in Dallas and I am helping host it.  Should be a good time!

Somewear: Lakeside Dinner with Friends

As Memorial Day quickly approaches, I can’t help but think of the fun festivities that will be
going on all across America.  This spot seems like somewhere I’d love to be; it’s simple, but
sublime.  The teals, earthy tones, and stones on the shoes are all reminiscent of the lake.  And I
couldn’t resist how perfectly these earrings matched the Moroccon inspired motif of the romper!
Bring out the beautiful purples in the print with a pop of color to the nails.  My sis and I both
love the one bangle look, so why not finish it off with this one, appropriately called “Make
Waves."
