Fashion Cents: Black Tie on a Budget

I’m going to a black tie event tonight.  Most people think black tie means fancy clothes and expensive jewelry, but that is not necessarily the case.  There are ways to get around it, you just need to be clever.

When wearing cheaper material- I always say go with foolproof black.  Sometimes cheaper fabric can look even cheaper when color is involved.  Black always hides- remember that.

Costume jewelry is in style, so wear that instead of sporting fake looking fine jewelry.  Also note- there is no such thing as “expensive” sequins (though you can be charged out the wazoo for it.)  Just blind people with glitz and glamour and they won’t know the difference.  I promise!

Black Tie Rehearsal Dinner at Southern Hills Country Club

My brother-in-law is getting married tomorrow, but tonight is the black tie rehearsal dinner.  I love a good excuse to wear floor length gowns and this one in particular is a stunner.  When it comes to black tie I always say go big or go home!

Somewear: Matinee to See “Anything Goes”

The loose draping of this dress slightly reminds me of the fashion worn in the 1930’s, and since Anything Goes takes place during that time period, I feel like it’s an appropriate fit for seeing the show today.  I always dress up for the theatre and believe that everyone else should do the same!

Somewear: Webby Awards at Hammerstein Ballroom

The Gregory Brothers will be receiving an award on Monday, June 13th and Sarah needs appropriate evening attire that’s fabulous enough to accept an award in, yet comfortable enough to last her through the night.  Sarah always looks fabulous in a low cut plunge and this mirror covered maxi seems almost dreamy enough to sleep in, so it should be perfect!  Plus, low heels will make walking up to the stage very stress free.  Can’t wait to watch her live streamed to the whole world next week!
